I like to Read

This month, I am showcasing simple board books that please Preschoolers and are good first books to read for early readers.  First of all I love their size and durability.  I've had several of these little books for ten years and they really don't show too much wear and tear after all they've been through.  My youngest grandaughter loves them.  She's nearing six years old and since she began loving books around eighteen months, her favorite thing to do at Grandmas is sit and read. When she was little, I read the books to her and now she is reading them to me and hasn't even started kindergarten yet!  Here are a few of my favorites---

Put Me in the Zoo Put Me in the Zoo

Check it out

This is a fun little book Granny Grace is using as one of her props for birthday parties.  Spots are fun and even more fun when they change color!  Granny Grace can even pull a spot magically off the fun cartoon animal.  Poor guy, he can do so many fun things, but the zoo keeps throwing him out.  What a nice surprise that he ends up in the circus-Granny's favorite place.  Robert Lopshire knows what little kids like.  It's an old favorite to read again and again.

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb is so much fun to read, your kids will be begging for more. The rhyming rolls off your tongue, magically into your preschooers tummy and comes out a bubble of giggles!  The author, Bill Perkins shows a great kinship to kids by using goofy monkeys to get his message of fun across. Erik Gurney's illunstrations of goofy monkeys playing the drums are hillarious.  Have fun!

Grandma and Me Grandma and Me

Grandma and Me and it's companion, Grandpa and Me by Neil Ricklen are the first two books I purchased as soon as I knew My husband and I were to be Grandparents!  It's the first book we ever read to the child who made us grandparents.  It's a great little chunky book with illustrations of the things all different kinds of grandparents do with their grandchildren.  Make this a must for any grandparent and also check out the the ones for mom and dad!

DK Touch and Feel DK Touch and Feel

What's the first thing you tell your children when you are shopping?  "DON'T TOUCH!"  DK Touch and Feel books say, "TOUCH AS MUCH AS YOU WANT!  A dream come true for kids.  Lots of fun things found in a kids world.  Some of the titles include, Birthdays, Wild animals, Farm Animals, At Home and many more.  Here's the web site for these kid-friendly books.  Touch and Feel Books

Penny Love Penny Love

When my sister gave me this delightful book for my birthday, I was charmed.  I immediately went out to find "jars" for my five grandchildren.  When I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, I went to the grocery store.  While there, I found plastic jars with sandwich spread in them on sale!  I bought five and brought them home.  I emptied them out, washed them, put slits in them and then I was ready.  The next time the children came over, I read them the whole story. Then I sent them outside with their jars to find the pennies I had hidden in the yard earlier that day.  What a fun time they had. How special to hear them say, "Grandma loves me!"  I'm eager to hear how rapidly their jars fill up with pennies they find  and where they find them.  This is the first and only book Lisa Soares Hale has written so far.  She wrote about a true story that happened when she and her Grandma found the first penny.  Every Grandma will want this book.  Please check out her web site at www.PennyLoveBook.com.
